What is Helium?

Curious about how Helium entered the party world? Helium is believed to be the first molecule formed in the universe after the Big Bang! It is also known as the strongest known acid; however, don't let that scare you, as helium is an odorless, non-toxic, and colorless gas that is lighter than air itself. Although we commonly know Helium as some sort of air that makes our balloons float, it is actually used in a variety of fields. For example, Helium has been used to create super-fast trains such as the Shinkansen train in Japan and is considered a vital element in rare document preservation, such as the Declaration of Independence!

How does Helium make Balloons float?

Hence, the million-dollar question: What does helium have to do with making my balloons float? Helium is much lighter than regular air. When you fill a balloon with helium, the balloon weighs less than the air around it. And because the air around it is heavier, it pushes the balloon up into the sky. This upward push is called buoyancy. ⬆️☁️

How do our Helium Tanks work?

Looking to decorate a party or event? We offer helium tanks for rent! Our 55 cubic ft tanks are compact, easy to carry, and simple to use. Each tank can inflate approximately 100–110 standard 11" latex balloons. Please note that the total number of balloons may vary depending on the size of the balloons you’re inflating.

-> How can I rent a Helium Tank?

If you're looking to rent one of our Helium tanks, head over to the search bar and type in "Helium Tank Rental." You'll see two locations to choose from: Miami and San Antonio. Make sure to choose the location you will be picking up from.

Pickups are from 9:00AM - 5:00PM On Weekdays, and 9:30AM - 1:00PM on Saturdays

-> What can be Inflated?

You can use our helium tanks to inflate both latex and foil balloons that can take helium. If inflating a foil balloon, be cautious when inserting so as not to tear it. Though we recommend that you check that the product is meant to be used with helium. Also, keep in mind that certain balloon sizes can also affect whether or not they can be inflated with helium.

-> What Balloon sizes can be inflated?

Our standard suggestion is that latex balloons, 9" and up, can generally be inflated with helium. Once again, make sure to check that the product can be inflated with helium.

-> How can I extend float time?

  • You can purchase Ultra-Hi Float, which helps reduce helium seepage through latex, extending float time. Available in-store and online here!
  • If attaching a ribbon, when inflating latex balloons, make sure to tie a knot at the neck of the balloon and tie the ribbon between the neck and the bottom of the balloon
  • If attaching a ribbon when inflating a foil balloon, tie the ribbon below the inflation port of the foil
  • Importantly, make sure not to underinflate or overinflate! When overinflating a balloon, it is sure to POP!

-> How to store our Helium Tanks?

For the most part, we suggest maintaining helium tanks in an upright position. Although helium tanks are not flammable, when not in use, please store them in a cool, dry location away from any heat sources.

How to Inflate Balloons using a Helium Tank?

  1. Find the opening in the tail or the bottom of the balloon
  2. Insert the opening of the balloon onto the nozzle of the tank until it looks airtight
  3. Hold the balloon in place while you tilt the nozzle downwards to inflate
  4. When the desired inflation level is achieved, remove the tail from the nozzle while pinching it shut so that no helium escapes (note: if inflating foil balloons, most are self-sealing)
  5. While pinching the balloon shut, go ahead and tie it if it's a latex balloon
  6. Tie a ribbon if desired

Note: Do not underinflate or overinflate, as that can affect a balloon's float time

Other Helium Services

If you prefer not to rent a helium tank, we’re pleased to offer a variety of helium services in-store. We can inflate balloons purchased at our store, and you’re also welcome to bring in your own balloons for inflation. Please note that for balloons not purchased from us, we’re unable to guarantee their quality and cannot assume responsibility for any damage.

Additionally, if you already own a helium tank, we’re happy to provide refill services for you. Please feel free to contact us with any questions about our helium options!
